St. Mary Star of the Sea
Computers and Art
Mrs. Cyndi Brinker
SincEver since I received my teaching degree I felt called by God to teach in the private, Christian, schools. Where we lived in Moapa Valley, Nevada, there weren't opportunities to explore that call. Since moving back home to Jackson, I fell so easily into teaching Art at St. John's, St. Mary's and Trinity Lutheran that I know I was answering the call. Since then God called me to another teaching position, that of computer and technology teacher at St. Mary's. In Nevada I taught computers, coding, technology, yearbook, and art for many years. I'm glad I'm back to technology, classes that are dear to my heart. Sadly, that meant giving up my position at Trinity Lutheran to make room for these classes and still maintain my position as art educator at St. John's and St. Mary's. Since that time, I have made the difficult decision to wind down my career exclusively at St. Mary's. I look forward this year to dedicating all my time to St. Mary's.

And now on to my story...
|
Me, Personally |
Me, Professionally |
My husband, Randy and I began our life together in 1975 when we were married at St. John the Evangelist Church. Within the next seven years we had four children, three boys, then a girl. They have since grown to amazing adults and live throughout the country with their spouses and children. My oldest, Jeremy lived in Las Vegas with his wife, Karen. They have recently relocated just down the road from us. Jason, second in line, lives in College Station, TX with Sarah and their two children, Aria and Quentin. Justin left the army after two tours and found an amazing job and wife, Misty with two daughters, Caitlyn and Alyssa, in Enid, OK. Finally, our daughter met her forever love, Jason, right here in Michigan and moved back from Nevada. They currently live only two miles from us with their two boys, Hunter and Joshua. My first idea was to move back home and live out my retirement. That lasted only three months and I felt the yearning to teach again. And so, that's what I did.

dI received my bachelor's degree from Eastern Michigan University in elementary education with a group major in art and a minor in elementary science, just before we moved to Nevada. My entire teaching career, before the last five years, was in Clark County School District. During my first year of teaching, I got the bright idea to get my master's degree at University of Phoenix in administration. Following my master's program I have been ADDICTED to learning, and have fifty two credits over my master's degree. Sometimes I blame Lumen Christi for that, since they instilled in me a yearning to be a life-long learner. Most of my credits over my master's degree have been in the area of computers and technology.
I believe my artistic talent was given by God. I have done amazing art by His grace. Although I have done a lot of drawings for others, I have never charged for them. I enjoy just sharing the gift He gave to me. |
