Art for the younger ones:
Art for younger students consists of the process, not the final product (called Process Art). Concentration is on the exploration of the medium they are using, and the freedom to explore it. My other goal is that they have permission to get messy! They may come home with paint on them. Just know that we buy washable paint and I won't use the other kind with them. Along the way, we will be discussing authentically the following:
Art for the older elementary students: Student in third through sixth grade will begin to learn techniques and to create an art product that may take weeks to complete. As we discuss their works of art, we will authentically discuss their style, as well as other artists or movements that are similar to their works. Concentration will be on WHAT they see (on a deeper level) and how they can replicate that into their drawing. On a deeper level as well, we will gear our artwork to the following:
Bulletin Boards Every semester I create an all-student bulletin board. Usually with a child-theme and a bible verse. Every student contributes and can see their work throughout the semester. Below are some examples of my bulletin boards that I have done at the various schools I have been at. Jackson County Art Show This year, our annual art show went viral because of the pandemic. A link to the artwork is below. If we get back to normal this year, it will return to Jackson Crossing sometime in early May. As the school year progresses, I collect their pieces and matte them. They will then be stored until it's time to hang them. The art show spans two weeks. When choosing artwork for the show, I keep track of who showed work the year before and try to include students who hadn't shown. By keeping careful records, all students show at one time or other. From these displays, usually one or two art pieces are chosen to go to Ella Sharp Museum for their Art-A-Loan program. They will then be professionally framed and professionals throughout Jackson will select student work to be displayed in their business for one year. When the year is over, their artwork will be returned to the student. |
